Frekuensi: A solo booth at Art Expo by Fadhli Ariffin

“By looking at one’s surroundings as an ecosystem, an artist takes from a location and situation the feelings and expressions for an art piece. The recent bouts of MCO has had an impact on how we work. There are no reasons to stop working. Branches, twigs and reeds change the way an artist creates. The lines were made using bamboo to find some form of work during a pandemic, as well as looking for the frequency of my purpose in life.” - Fadhli Ariffin

Rissim Contemporary is excited to present a new series of works by Fadhli Ariffin "Pali" (b.1989, Perak) for Art Expo 2022. These works are captured in two parts: Mencari Frekuensi and Frekuensi. The former, a series of smaller works, depicts Pali’s struggles with finding sustenance and purpose as an artist during the confines of a strict lockdown. Darker tones of repetitive patterns pulse and vibrate almost like soundwaves of Pali’s experiences. In contrast, the latter is a bright and colouristic visual feast reflecting the embracement of his purpose. We find ourselves immersed in his internal frequency and celebration of artistic freedom and expression.
