A series of paintings painted from images that come from memories which act as a reminder of the existence of those who left us. Time passes, people come and go, the only thing that is left behind are memories. There must be certain places or objects that remind us of the people and of the moments that have passed which build us into who we are today. Imitation of memories includes distortion in the shape, size or visual character of the subject matter and personalisation in the technique or style torepresent the fragmented memories.

Ong Pei Yee (b. Selangor, 1999) is an emerging artist from Malaysia who earned her bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang.

Pei Yee is a multi-disciplinary artist who’s work primarily revolves around the mediums of acrylic and oil painting. Her recent series of works delve into the theme of memories, serving as poignant reminders of those who have departed from our lives. In her artistic exploration, she contemplates the transient nature of time and the enduring impact of individuals and moments.

Pei Yee's artistry involves capturing how things feel rather than how they seem. Her most recent series of paintings serve as heartfelt commemorations to loved ones who may no longer be with us. She chooses objects from everyday life and religious items as subjects, transporting viewers to a reflective state, much like how our experiences of memories are at times vivid, while murky at others.

Pei Yee's works have been exhibited in Malaysia. She has also awarded the Bronze prize for the UOB Painting of the Year (2022) in the Emerging Artist Category. Through her art, Ong Pei Yee invites us to explore the profound connection between memory, personal reflection, and the power of visual expression. Her work stands as a testament to the enduring influence of art in capturing the essence of our lives and the memories that shape us.
