POV: Fauzan Fuad

Rissim Contemporary is pleased to announce a debut solo-exhibition of Fauzan Fuad (b.1987, Malaysia), a self-taught artist whose series of paintings and photographs delves into the intricate connection between the meditative routine of skateboarding and the unconscious patterns woven into the fabric of everyday life. The exhibition, titled "POV," will be on display at Rissim Contemporary from 24th February to 17th March.

Fauzan invites audiences into a world where the conscious and unconscious ways of seeing converge, mirroring his own journey of balancing the positive and negative aspects of life. As he navigates life's path, he is compelled to 'record' and observe the world, inhaling its essence using any available medium at his disposal, including spray-paint. Regardless of whether his methods follow, contradict, or challenge convention, the artistic process remains a steadfast tool that enables him to reflect on his journey and achieve equilibrium between the physical and spiritual facets of his being. His works serve as an exploration of the mundane and everyday elements within his urban environment encompassing urban architecture, skate culture, construction sites, graffiti, freedom, and rawness.

His creative process involves a dynamic fusion of spray painting and traditional painting techniques, resulting in works that transcend the boundaries between street art and contemporary abstraction. The juxtaposition of vibrant colors and muted tones in his pieces serves as a testament to his ability to infuse the raw energy of street art with a refined and contemporary aesthetic.

At the heart of Fauzan's exhibition is an existential exploration of his own existence and a profound reflection on the everyday and subconscious elements that shape our perception of the world. Influenced by his deep connection to skateboarding, Fauzan has cultivated a unique lens through which he interprets the architectural landscapes around him.
